Can HP Get Any Worse? My Adventure with cioumupdate_3545_000_009.exe
Can HP get any worse? This post will detail my recent adventure with cioumupdat
For the last month or so I’ve been getting regular reminders on my Win XP machine about a “critical update” to HP software. Every single time the automatic update failed. I downloaded the update file manually three separate times. As far as I could tell, the .exe file ran. But it didn’t do anything. I kept getting nagged to update. Remember, HP calls this update CRITICAL.
I had a few minutes today so I visited the HP online forums to see if I could find any information. After finally retrieving my user name and password, their support forum crashed and was gone for a couple of hours. Hello? Does “mission-critical” even have a meaning at HP?
But I had other things to do, so the time wasn’t wasted. Eventually the forums came back online. A quick search on that file name revealed the following. (Follow this link to see the full discussion, registration may be required. If HP takes down the thread, I have a copy here. Let me know.)
HP’s “solution” to the problem:
Re: please fix 9/21/11 hp critical update to correct pc communicat
Hey osufan45 I’m sorry you’re having this problem, try uninstalling your software and when you go back into installing it, customize the software you can de-select hp update. That way you don’t have to mess with the update.
If your problem is solved please click the “Accept as Solution” button —->I work for HPHewlett-Packard
Got that? Turn off automatic updating. Critical update? Apparently not.
I will never, ever buy another HP product.
