Batch File Renaming on Your Mac

Batch File Renaming on Your Mac

The other day I created about 58 files from a scanner.  But I got their names wrong.  Each file contained the string 2301 when it should have been 2302.  All this on my Mac. So I went looking for an easy solution and, much to my surprise, I discovered a remarkable tool: the Automator.

The guy who introduced us calls himself Wez Pyke.  He wrote some very nice instructions at Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/using-automator-to-batch-rename-images-mac/.  The page is loaded with ads, but fairly easy to follow.  Once you get the idea you’ll find many uses for this nifty tool.

Automator creates workflow scripts.  Now that I understand the concept of workflow, I think I’ll experiment with it in other venues.  I believe recent incarnations of Microsoft Office include some workflow features.  Stay tuned.
